WHITE MOUNTAIN ©♦^©❖•♦©^©^©♦^o •♦•♦•♦O^ GIBAHED LAWN MOWERS There is only one best of a kind, these are the BEST. THOS. II. BRIGGS & SONS RALEIGH N. C. BLIND TOM COMING Next Tuesday Night at the Acad emy of Music Ten years have passed since Blind Torn has appeared in this city, and no doubt many people who heard him then will want to go again. He still pleases ana attracts large audiences everywhere. The following is from the Indianapolis Jour nal: “Blind Torn, gave a piano recital at English’s Opera House last night to an audience much larger than would ordin arily be attracted in as bad a display of weather as there was at the time. Blind Tom was born in Georgia, a chattel of the Bethune family. As to Tom's rela tives he has never lacked for brothers and sisters, as his mother has had twen ty children, Tom alone being gifted in music. Me was born blind, hilt some years since an operation was performed upon his eyes, which has given him a lit tle vision, barely enough to distinguish between^ dark and light. “While Blind Torn has a delicate ear for music he is not wholly taken up with the piano, but he likes “to hear the band play,” and nothing gives him greater de light than to pound the bass drum. He plays well upon the flute. Off the stage he is simple as a child. He has never been shaved, but cuts off his beard with scissors. When he has them in hand he has to be watched, as he makes clashes upon his hair that are not im proving to his appearance. “The programme last night contained’ seventeen mlmhers, cf sufficient variety to please the audience.” MID-SUMMER SALE I THE SELLING BEGINS NOW. «®9«@osee99«®eeee«««»® | Mineral Waters® * ALL KINDS 1 g Buffalo, * 9 Chase, X Beaufort, J ® Apenta, g * Hathorn, etc 9 I Henry T.
